Hottie Raised Money for Whitworth Buchanan Middle School

Schools have also been impacted by the “soft” economy. Whitworth Buchanan Middle School is the newest addition to the Murfreesboro, TN school system. The Principal, Avy Seymore and Vice Principal, Jeff Willhoit came up with a very clever fundraiser. The problem was they needed a Donkey.

To the rescue was “Hottie”, Legendary’s Hearts Wide Open. The fundraiser entailed contributions to the school if the Principal and Vice Principal kissed a Donkey at a pep rally. The Bet was On!!!!

Funds were raised, and Hottie had to perform. She was loaded up into the trailer, which she has done many times. However, she was required to walk through a narrow pedestrian door, walk down slick, well polished flooring in a hallway going to the indoor gymnasium. Then inside, the gymnasium had highly-finished wood flooring. Of course, I was a nervous wreck. I had visions of her being frightened and refusing to walk inside, slipping on the flooring, etc.

Well, I should have never doubted her, she walked through the door, down the slick, narrow hallway and into the gymnasium as if she had been down this path 100 times!!!!!!

Then the Band started to warm up and the cheerleaders began their chants and loud, yelling students entered the gymnasium. The excitement and the noise level began to grow. Absolute sensory overload, but Hottie stood there as if she welcomed the attention.

Finally, the P.A. system was turned on, the stands were filled with giggling and laughing students and the BET was being met. First, the Vice Principal, Jeff Willhoit kissed Hottie on the (you guessed it) the rump; and then Principal Seymore kissed Hottie on the muzzle. The students roared, and Hottie stood like a rock. Another loud burst of laughter erupted when Hottie (okay, she is a Donkey) had an accident on the floor. But this possibility was planned for and quickly dealt with. Hottie stood on a mat and clean-up occurred immediately.

That day Whitworth Buchanan Middle School made some money, Hottie loved the attention and many students and teachers got to experience the kind and gentle nature of the Miniature Donkey.

Thanks Garth Brooks!!

Not exactly a topic for the farm site, but WOW!!!!  May 1st and 2nd, 2010, Nashville and the surrounding areas experienced a 1,000 year flood damaging many renowned landmarks, destroying many businesses and leaving 100s homeless.

In response to those people still struggling from the destruction from the floods, Garth Brooks decided to have a benefit concert in Nashville with 100% of proceeds going back into the communty. Within minutes the tickets sold out. Garth than added 8 more shows which were all sold out within hours.  Last night, we attended the only evening weekend concert and MAN DID GARTH DELIVER AN AWESOME SHOW!

Garth performed many of his classics (The Thunder Rolls, Rodeo, The Dance, The Beaches of Cheyenne, Callin’ Baton Rouge, Friends in Low Places, etc.) and even sat down for one song to listen to the audience sing back the lyrics to him. Everyone was on their feet for the entire event. He included his lovely wife, Trisha Yearwood in a wonderful duet.

The entire evening was magical, the lighting was fabulous, the band was superb, the stage was set-up in a manner for maximum visibility and Garth’s voice was as clear, strong and crisp as ever. The concert was being filmed for our troops overseaes which made the event so much more special. GARTH AND TRISHA, YOU ARE A TREASURE AND NASHVILLE THANKS YOU FOR YOUR  GIFT TO HELP THOSE THROUGH AN UNPRECEDENTED FLOOD.

Nashville’s Opryland Hotel, Back to its Glory!

May 1st and 2nd of 2010 will be remembered by everyone living in Middle Tennessee. We experienced a 1,000 year flood with 19 inches of rain in 2 days. Landmarks such as The Grand Old Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, the Schermerhorn (our classical music hall), various honkey-tonks, downtown Nashville and The Opryland Hotel obtained extensive flood damage. Damages are expected to exceed $1.0 Billion. Hundreds lost their homes, hundreds of businesses received significant damage, livestock lost and 21 lives were lost!  Nashvillians rolled up their sleeves and helped their neighbors!

After $185.0 million in rehabilitation, our Spectacular Orpryland Hotel has reopened for the Holidays. Enjoy the following Holiday photos of the newly-remodeled Opryland Hotel

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON!
