Did you know there is a Registry dedicated to Spotted Donkeys (all sizes) and Mules? American Counsel of Spotted Asses, known as ACOSA is that Registry. American Counsel of Spotted Asses was founded in 1966 by John Parker, in Billings Montana. In 1974, the Conters (John and Claire) took over the management of the registry. John Conter’s son, Dan Conter became involved in the registry at a very early age. Dan Conter set-up the ACOSA WebSite in 1997 and is the official registrar for American Counsel of Spotted Asses. ACOSA continues to be operated by a Board of Directors. At one time, there was only one show dedicated to ACOSA (denoted as the ACOSA Nationals). In 2017, the Nationals began to move to various locations, and additional ACOSA shows were added.

American Donkey and Mule Society (ACOSA) will allow the registration of spotted Donkeys and Mules that meet the requirements:

  1. At least 2 spots, visible on a photograph, located above the leg and behind the throatlatch.
  2. Payment for registry and completion of the ACOSA registration form (available on-line).
